A Message from the Registrar
Registration for the 2009 team takes place in February and then our Parent's Night is in March. Parent's night is very insightful for families new to swimming since you can meet the board of directors, meet the coaches and also hear the coach's talk about the season and what the goals are for the team.
We are a recreational team so there are no tryouts to be on the team, the only qualification is that the swimmer must be able to swim the length of the pool without touching the lane ropes or stopping.
Our official swim team season begins April 1st and runs through the end of July. Awards Night is in August following the end of the swim season. Our coaches do offer a Stroke and Turn Clinic during March to help get the swimmers ready for the season, but I do not have any finalized information on that yet.
Our practices are 5 times per week for approximately 30 minutes to 1 1/2 hours each night. The practice length depends on the age group of the swimmer; however the swimmer does not have to attend each practice. We suggest that a minimum of 3 practices be attended each week in order for the swimmer to compete in the meets. The practice times range each year and are based upon the swimmers' age group. Normally early age groups swim first and then it goes up from there.
As for the meets they are on Saturday's and normally start at 8am (but the swimmers normally have to be at the pool by 6:45am) and they normally end around 1:30pm. We are trying to have at least 4 home meets this year and then 4 away meets. Our championships occur at the end of July and all swimmers are eligible to attend championships. If you are a good swimmer then there is a chance that you could swim in the finals at championships. As for missing meets, the swimmer must swim in at least 2 Conference meets in order to swim at championships
As a side note, the girls age groups fill up very fast and we limit the number of swimmers in each age group. We guarantee all our returning swimmers a spot on the team as long as their registration packet is turned in at registration night or it is post marked on the registration date, after that it is on a first come first serve basis. The registration packet is normally up on our website mid to late January. So if you have a girl who is interested in swimming the sooner you turn in a completed registration packet with payment in full, the better chance you have of securing her a spot on the team.
